Carol Starbuck

Carol Starbuck has been fortuitous enough to be able to pass a wide brush stroke over the canvas of her professional and volunteer life.

Carol owned her first business at the age of 25. She has also worked for the past 30 years doing what she would consider her 'life long passion' in the field of exercise physiology, rehabilitation and functional training. Carol has had the pleasure of taking time off during prior careers to experience working for Southwest Airlines as a Flight Attendant, another curiosity fulfilled.

In her many twists and turns, Carol worked eight years for Stanford University Police Department as a 'Special Events Officer.'  After that time, Carol became an avid volunteer. Her first board of directors seat was with Deep Peninsula Dog Training Organization. Along with her Therapy Dog, Frazier, they visited hospitals, the,Palo Alto and Los Altos Library 'Read Programs' for Children, as well as Juvenile Hall, allowing the inmates to experience the joy an animal can bring.

Other activities in which Carol has been involved in has been her work in Emergency Services. Carol acquired many FEMA certificates from the Department of Homeland Security along the way which enabled her to become a full time employee for Santa Clara County Fire Department, in Office of Emergency Services, OES. Carol volunteered for over 10 years with the Los Altos HILLS Community Emergency Response Team (LAH-CERT), in conjunction with, (I’d remove the comma) The Los Altos Hills County Fire District (LAHCFD). Carol became a CERT Instructor-Supervisor-Trainer. At that time she discovered her fondness for instructing. On the county level she received her STOP THE BLEED trainers certificate, and trained many in the skills of CPR and First Aid. Carol also received her FEMA Certificate in "Train the Trainers" which enabled her to train others seeking their instructors qualification certificate. Her training included; Ham radio emergency operations, terrorism awareness, cribbing, triage and the many aspects a disaster can bring to a community.  Carol holds her Emergency Ham Radio, 'General License' and is currently "at the ready" to help in the event of any major disaster, as a disaster leader and organizer.

Carol has been a board member of the The Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade (FOLPA) Board of Directors for over 8 years. She currently holds the seat of President for FOLPA, 2021-2023, as she concurrently holds the position of 'Co-Chair of FOLPA Content Committee'. Carol also is enjoying her current position as 'Vice Chair' for KMVT-TV (April 2021-2022)  and looks forward to moving into the Chair position for April 2022-2023.

Carol produced "Homage to the Holiday's 2020" with KMVT, a holiday video which aired on KMVT in December 2020 in order to reach out to the surrounding communities KMVT serves that were 'shut-in" during the Covid pandemic. The following year in December 2021,along with KMVT staff, Carol produced the first 'live filming' of The Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade, with Director of KMVT, Bobby Chastain.  She hopes to make this an annual event in conjunction with FOLPA and KMVT as a community outreach program/event. Carol's first television production experience was a Five Part documentary series for The Discovery Channel while attending USC. The production was titled, "Terrorism, a World in Shadows"   The documentary examined the origins, history, techniques, ideologies, and personalities of terrorism, leaving viewers with a better understanding of this global phenomenon and how to fight it. Carol was the researcher to Executive Producer, Robert Kline and Dr Richard Dekmejian (USC). Produced by The Discovery Channel and Enduring Freedom Productions.

Carol has adopted the nick name "Connectivity Liaison" as she has been exposed to an incredibly broad swath of people. As a result she has had the opportunities in connecting others when the need arises, which brings her extreme joy when the connections bear fruit. Carol has attended University of Southern California, USC. She has also attended the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, AZ.  For fun Carol has been known to be called a 'workout fanatic' as her workouts bring her what she calls, the meaning life!
