Adult Workshops

KMVT Community Television in Mountain View offers rewarding, hands-on workshops in television and video production! No previous experience is necessary. Our workshops give you the skills to crew on an existing show, produce your own show at KMVT, or simply further your understanding of media production. KMVT Adult Workshops are for students ages 16+.

Payment can be made the first night of class. KMVT accepts Cash, Check, Visa or MasterCard. If you can not attend the class, please call KMVT at (650) 968-1540 to cancel. Classes may be subject to cancellation or rescheduling based on the number of participants registered.


Studio Production
Cost: $85.00
Enrollment Limit: 16

Get hands on experience you need to safely operate the cameras, teleprompter, audio, switcher and character graphics. You will learn practical skills on how all the equipment works and functions during a production. You will also be required to work with your group and to do a "program piece" rotating crew positions. This class is required for anyone who would like to crew on a show produced at KMVT. Producer Training
Cost: $40.00
Enrollment Limit: 6
Prerequisite: Completion of Studio Production

Learn techniques of producing your own show. You will learn show structuring, review forms needed for shows, talent releases and how to work with your crew and copyright issues.

Field Production
Cost: $85.00/$45.00 for previous field production students from KMVT

Enrollment Limit: 6

Learn field production utilizing different camera formats and become certified to use our Sony HD NX5U camera and our Sony PD170's. This class is a hands on intro to producing video on location, including proper set up and break down of equipment, camera work, lighting, audio techniques, basic interview tips and planning for post production and editing. Class is three nights + Project Certification TBD.

Social Media Workshop
Cost: $

Want to increase your Organizations or personal Social Media presence. After 3 hours

Intro to Motion Graphics
Cost: $40.00

This is a two night class covering the basics of motion graphics. Students learn how to effectively and realistically add motion to tags, intro sequences and credits. We will spend time reviewing current motion graphics being used in the industry and the technology behind them. Students will leave with a foundation to get them started on the path to creating professional motion graphics.

Currently we offer short courses by arrangement in Video Editing, Field Camera, Video Blogging, and Uploading your Video to the Web! Please contact us at info@kmvt15.org to make arrangements for your one-on-one session.

Field Camera course
This training introduces you to our Sony PD-170 Digital Camcorder and other equipment needed in field production. In 1 hour, learn how to set up the camcorder and operate the portable equipment. In 3 hours, you will also learn some field shooting methods and techniques. This class is a pre-requisite for renting the PD-170.
Intro to Video Editing
Intro to Video Editing teaches you the basics of video editing through hands-on practice using our Adobe Premiere editing system. In 2 hours, learn basic editing concepts such as cutting, dissolving and adding music. In 3 hours, you'll also learn how to digitize video from tape, and edit with simple effects, music and titles. In 4-5 hours, you'll gain the knowledge to edit a simple project from start to finish, including how to export your final project to DVD.
Intro to Video Blogging
This is a hands-on introductory workshop about the exciting new world of video blogging; pod casting, and related graphics and web tools. You will survey and access existing video blogs while exploring basic camera, editing and publishing techniques for your personal video blogs. Although not required, it is suggested you bring your own laptop and existing video clips for exercises.
Uploading Videos to the Web
In this hands-on workshop you’ll learn how to upload your videos to the web. We’ll guide you step-by-step to create an account on Youtube and OurMedia, upload your video to these sites, and then briefly discuss how to integrate this into your own website or blog.
