- WHAT IS PUBLIC ACCESS TELEVISION?
- Public access (also called community access) television offers individuals and community groups low or no cost training and use of electronic media to produce their own programming which promotes awareness of new ideas and reflects the diversity of the community. Public access was a result of the Cable Communications Act of 1984, in which Congress established a provision that would permit local authorities to develop requirements for public use of the local cable system.

- THE COMMUNITY'S MEDIA CONNECTION
- KMVT provides communication among local residents and organizations by producing and airing programs that focus on local people, issues and services. KMVT staff produces programs about Mountain View issues and events. Individuals and community groups may also express their thoughts, perspectives, and ideas by producing their own television shows. We also cable-cast Import shows. These are shows produced at other cable access facilities, requested by Mountain View residents.Our programming hours are from 4:00 p.m. to 12 midnite. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
- WHO CAN WATCH KMVT?
- Anyone who lives within the borders of Mountain View and subscribes to basic cable, can watch KMVT on cable Channel 15. Some shows produced at KMVT are sent to access stations in other cities, and may be seen on those channels as well.
- QUALITY TRAINING, EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
- Our workshops educate local residents and others in studio and field production. Workshop graduates can go on to develop their own local television programs, or volunteer on other producer's shows. Equipment includes a three-camera studio, video camcorders for remote shoots, three-camera mobile production van, video editing and dubbing facilities.
- LOCAL AND NATIONAL RECOGNITION
- KMVT has received local and national awards continuously for both volunteer and staff-produced programs, including awards for Overall Excellence in L.O. (Local Origination) Programming, Overall Commitment to Local Programming, and Outstanding Programming and Service to the Community of Mountain View.
- FUNDING
- KMVT is an independent, non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, with the majority of funding provided by cable franchise fees and cable company support, Additional revenue comes from donations, fund raising and client services.
